Do you have a specific religious perspective that guides your Sex Ed course?I do not teach from any specific religious perspective. We do discuss how different religions have different beliefs regarding sex and their bodies (circumcision, ideas about virginity, body covering, etc.), but it’s an overview of all religious perspectives. I give facts. You teach values. I will give factual, relevant information. I will answer their questions in an age-appropriate manner. You will teach the values. Although many religious organizations focus on abstinence only education, teens who receive abstinence only education are more likely to become pregnant when compared to those who receive comprehensive sex education (Carter, 2012; Stanger-Hall & Hall, 2011). I teach the fact that abstinence is the optimal method of birth control, but also inform them of other methods of birth control, as this instruction is most effective in preventing teenage pregnancies.
